HERITORS LABS - Moving Research from Labs to Markets: Activating Viable and Innovation Markets and Value Chains

Duty Station: In-person
Line Manager: Team Lead
Contract Type: Short-Term Consultant
Date Required: As soon as possible
Duration: 2 months with the possibility of extension
Close date: 14th June 2024

BACKGROUND

Heritors Labs (HL) Limited, in strategic collaboration with the Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) Fund, spearheads initiatives to advance Ghana's Research, Development, and Innovation (R&DI) ecosystem to translate research outputs into marketable products and services. The end goal is to activate value chains and innovation markets.
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE OF ASSIGNMENT

The Innovation Markets and Value Chain Map (IMVCM) study is a strategic initiative to explore and map Ghana's innovation market and value chain. This comprehensive study identified key stakeholders, challenges, and opportunities to enhance the movement of research and innovation from laps to markets. By pinpointing these key nodes, steps, potential innovation economies and actors in the R&I value chain, the IMVCM provides the critical pathway to viable commercialisation of research and innovation outcomes. It serves as a tool to understand and improve the innovation landscape in Ghana, outlining the journey from research to market through utilisation to disposal. The IMVCM highlights critical interactions, stakeholders, and innovation economy actors at each node of the value chain.

Based on the findings of the IMVCM, there is a need to address significant gaps and barriers that hinder the commercialisation of innovations in Ghana. These include lack of funding, intellectual property protection, conformity assessments, value-added intermediation, and market access.

To address these issues, we are establishing a school that offers short training programs tailored to the specific needs identified by the IMVCM. The school aims to equip innovators, researchers, policymakers, investors, and other stakeholders with the skills and knowledge required to effectively and efficiently collaborate, create value, and impact through innovation.

To achieve this, we are seeking a qualified Curriculum Specialist to develop a series of courses that directly address the challenges and opportunities outlined by the IMVCM study.

1. Curriculum Development:
Design and develop a comprehensive curriculum for short training programs that address the gaps and barriers identified by the IMVCM.
Ensure the curriculum covers key areas such as funding acquisition, intellectual property protection, conformity assessments, value-added intermediation, and market access.
2. Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with key stakeholders identified in the IMVCM to gather insights and ensure the curriculum meets their needs and expectations.
Collaborate with innovators, researchers, policymakers, and investors to integrate practical examples and case studies into the training materials.
3. Content Creation:
Develop detailed course materials, including lesson plans, presentations, handouts, and assessments.
Ensure the content is accessible, engaging, and tailored to the target audience's level of understanding.
4. Training Delivery Support:
Provide guidance and support for the implementation of the training programs.
Train instructors or facilitators on delivering the courses effectively.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation:
Develop metrics and tools to assess the effectiveness of the training programs.
Collect feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve the curriculum.
